"Nurses are the backbone of any healthcare care system, providing the attention and medical care that needed to live health long-lasting lives." Here I would like to take the opportunity to prove that nursing is a noble profession by nominating a colleague of mine for this great DAISY Award. It is my honor to nominate Michelle Recel for receipt of the DAISY AWARD. Her valuable contributions to fulfill clinic goals and objectives in which ultimately achieve hospital strategic priorities are not just adored by the patient, but also will respected by her peers. She is a bright and a great problem solver. She is able to foresee potential problems and is proactive at dealing with them before they become an issue. She isn't someone that comes to work and puts in her time. She is dedicated to and genuinely loves her job. She goes the extra mile to assure success of our services and patient satisfaction.

Michelle has been going beyond her call of duties as a registered nurse. The patients themselves really speak highly of Michelle. Even with Michelle's hectic work load she has taken the time to give patients all the care and attending to their needs. Michelle is organized and multi tasks her duties. Michelle makes sure that the patients stay safe. She will be at our side acting as a team member with a helping hand. Michelle also reassures family members of patients with positive updates about their loved ones. I am one of her team members that can testify how deserving this award would be for Michelle. She is hard working nurse who is always willing to help everyone and maintains a positive and motivated disposition that is inspirational. When at work, her goal is to improve the quality of a patient's life one moment at a time.

In her role, Michelle responsibilities include charge nurse, preceptor, Unit Base Council member and quality improvement initiatives. She is an invaluable resource for clinical issues, such as Urology, Plastic Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Laparoscopic, Abdominal Upper G.I Surgery, General Obesity, Vascular Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Andrology & Infertility, surgical Oncology, & Surgical wound Care Nurse Clinic. She serves as the liaison for the unit. Michelle was chosen as the best preceptor for NGDP. Apart from that she was an active team member for JCIA and Magnet preparation as well as one of the important resources for the staffs in our unit. Michelle does not shy away from new technologies and changes in treatment methods but embraces them enthusiastically as her greatest desire is to help patients physically and emotionally. Michelle has excellent communication skills and thrives in a fast-paced unit and is an amazing multi-tasker. She also has the people skills to explain to her patients what she is doing and why, helping them to be more comfortable. Patients will mention her name and ask for her care for them. Michelle will also take the time to assist other nurses to ensure a smooth flow of the clinic. The patient and their family members were cooperative due to her soothing and caring approach. She serves as the ultimate patient advocate. She is able to establish a level of trust and cooperation from our special patients who are at times difficult to handle. She offers creative approaches to overcome barriers. She is very tuned into her patients and takes the time to listen to their concerns and to answer their questions. She is able to skillfully manage difficult and emotionally challenging conversations.

It is a joy working with Michelle because I have witnessed her excellent nursing skills and compassionate attitude. She always displays a genuine happy, upbeat, and positive attitude around patients. She comes to work with a bright smile and leaves at the end of her shift still with a bright smile even when her day was tough in ensuring her patient's needs were met. She always thanks the staff for good teamwork. Michelle is also an extraordinary person and clinician who epitomize nursing at its best.

Michelle is also a successful scholar, which has been amply demonstrated in her prior outstanding academic achievements. She is a person with a continuous thirst for knowledge who will actively seek learning opportunities throughout her life and career. She continually reinforces her strong knowledge base by sharing it with others. She is a highly respected mentor in our unit, as well as providing many educational presentations to her co-worker. She is Professional Development representative since the formation of UBC. She always coach and support us on any issues related to professional development and also update us from time to time on any updates available in i-learn related to our unit. Michelle is one of our unit ICIS and Oracle resource, developed several educational material for patients and plays a major role being task force team member in developing the streamlining process (piloted) in Urology unit.

Beyond that, I would say that Michelle is one of the best nurses that I have ever worked with in any capacity. She makes each all her co-workers job easier including other healthcare professionals. More importantly, she makes a powerful, positive difference in the lives of our patients, their families and all of her co-workers.
