Michele has worked in the OR at Methodist North for over thirty years. She is an extraordinary nurse who delivers care with the utmost empathy. Developing a relationship with the surgical patient is challenging because the patient is asleep and communication with the family is limited to the telephone. Surgery nurses have little face to face time with the patients and their families.
Michele has an incredibly special gift where she connects with her patients and their families almost immediately. Her ability to establish such a comforting and trusting relationship comes from her devotion to provide the absolute best care. Working in surgery, Michele not only shows comfort and compassion, but she has developed a drive for patient advocacy and safety.
She is very dedicated to the care that is given to her patients. She is always mindful and detail-oriented for every procedure to protect the patient and assure all around readiness. Michele has experienced several unbelievable moments during her career. These experiences have molded her into a phenomenal OR nurse.
Michele is the go-to nurse when questions arise about procedures, equipment, expected outcomes, and many more issues. Recently MLH adopted new surgical antibiotic prophylaxis guidelines. The OR nurses were faced with several challenges to ensure each patient was not only ordered the correct medication, but also the correct dose of medication based on the type of surgery and the weight of the patient. The OR nurses were faced with the task to encourage adoption and adaptation of the new guidelines. Michele's outstanding advocacy shined through the process of implementing these new guidelines.
She consistently communicated the patients' needs for the correct medication and dose. She never gave up on the change and continued to uphold the new practice. By supporting this new practice, Michele has again shown her dedication to provide the best nursing care for her patients. She desires the best possible outcome for all of her patients and exceeds every day to make sure she can do everything she can to reach that goal.
