... I had open heart surgery and was moved from Intensive Care to 5 East the following day. It was there on 5 East that Michaela helped to care for me.

Those first days after surgery were and still remain a bit of a blur to me. Both physically and mentally it was difficult to process what I had just experienced. It is, therefore, difficult for me to relate a specific story about Michaela, but I have no trouble remembering how I would describe her:

ATTENTIVE: She seemed to always be there' whenever I needed something

CONCERNED: Michaela consistently communicated honest concern for how I was feeling and did everything she could to help me be comfortable.

PROFESSIONAL: She treated me with a confidence that as reassuring to me and I trusted her judgement.

ENCOURAGING: Never bossy or pushy, but Michaela always encouraged me to be well.

And finally, her sense of humor and always ready smile helped me make it through those very difficult first days after the surgery. I believe Michaela is truly deserving of the DAISY Award and wish her the very best.
