I am writing on behalf of my family about a nurse that helped care for my brother in the intensive care unit. My brother was brought to the hospital and was very sick. My family was very worried about him because he had not had good experiences in the hospital in the past and had left before.
All the nurses who took care of him were kind, but Michaela Bennett was very helpful by explaining what was going on to the whole family and attending to my brother even though she was the charge nurse. She gave us updates over the phone and in person. He had a breathing tube for several days and when it was removed, he was scared and very sick. She made us feel reassured when we were not at the hospital that he was ok.
We felt relieved that Michaela was in charge, and we felt that it was ok to go home and rest, because he was getting really good care. My mother wanted to stay with him all night, but Michaela convinced her to go home and get rest, because it was important to take care of herself, too, and that he was in good hands. Sometimes we would call, and she would just listen to us express our fears and that was very important to us all.
Michaela is a very compassionate and understanding nurse and a good leader in the ICU. Everyone respects her very much. She took care of our whole family. She deserves to be recognized for her good work doing a very hard job. Thank you so much from our whole family.
