Michael is an experienced pediatric cardiac nurse at Texas Children's Hospital who has worked in the CVICU for over 10 years. He is a kind and gentle nurse who provides exceptional care to our patients and families at Texas Children's Hospital. After multiple hours of cardiac surgery, families rush to see their loved one. The first few visits can be very overwhelming to families who come to visit their baby or child who is connected to all of the equipment and machines in the room. As a nurse you might get used to seeing all of the high tech equipment but as a father himself, Michael knows how frightening it can be to the families. He takes time with each family to explain the medications, procedures, monitors, alarms, invasive lines, chest tubes, and incisions that a patient's parents may encounter during the first few days after cardiac surgery.

Here is what one of our patients families wrote about Michael's patient care:

"Just when I thought I would never understand all of my son's medications, stats and treatments, Michael came along! His in depth knowledge is amazing. He was able to explain things to me in an understandable way for me to grasp. Michael never tires of my questions and often seems to answer my questions even before they leave my mouth. My son has had many hands care for him during his 13 days on Earth and Michael's are the best! Michael's hands have shown me how to navigate diaper changes with my sons many wires, and in turn, given me a way to interact with my son. I always looked forward to learning from Michael and think he is an amazing treasure to children and families."

...

Michael is passionate and meticulous about the care he gives to each child and family he takes care of during his shifts on the weekend. He is a positive, caring and experienced nurse who has taken care of many children with various cardiac defects. Nurses, physicians and surgeons on the unit use Michael as a resource and look up to him. Texas Children's Hospital is proud to have him as part of our team.
