In May of this year, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and sent to the oncology unit. It was here that I had the privilege of meeting Michael Gallo and having him as my nurse the first night of my stay. I was in such a state of panic and shock that I could not comprehend what my physician had told me about my condition earlier that day. When Mike came on to work his shift, he noticed the state of duress I was under and immediately took action to help ease my mind. He printed me medical information sheets, gave me a book specifically about my condition with AML, and very thoroughly went through it with me. This helped me to understand what was going on in my body. I have been admitted 4-times to this same unit since then, and Mike has always shown me compassion, been very helpful, and provided me with exemplary care. He is a "one-of-a-kind" nurse whom I now consider a friend.
