I was having one of those days where nothing was going right. Everything seemed to be going wrong until Melissa showed up. Melissa is not only kind, compassionate and caring with all of her patients, but with her co-workers as well; even my patient's family noticed how helpful she was. Melissa always goes above and beyond; giving 110%!
I was working with a 3R nurse who was out of her comfort zone. I was trying my best to help her out. Things got so crazy that I cringed every time someone said my name. Melissa was the wound care nurse that day and helped out to get us back on track. She put orders in, answered phones, and patient call bells. Melissa then took the time needed for my patient, who recently had surgery and had her stoma moved. It was not your typical bag change; it took a lot of time. Melissa came back 4 times that day, checking on the patient, making sure she was okay while checking in on the unit as well. Even though she was busy with her own patients on another floor, she ended up changing the appliance two times that day and assured the patient and me that she would be there first thing in the morning so the Dr. could remove what was there and she could place a new one. Not only did Melissa make the patient and family feel better, but she decreased my anxiety. With it being so hectic, I wouldn't have been able to spend as much time as she did. Thank you, Melissa, for your support and dedication, we need more kind and compassionate nurses like you. You are absolutely a team player!
