I think that the DAISY Award was made for Melissa Rimmer. Melissa is not only our charge nurse but she is the Nurse Educator for our unit. She tries very hard to make our job easier. She created short cuts in Epic that grouped discharge instructions for each procedure that we perform. She created lists to expedite care planning. When it is time for JCHO or Magnet recertification, she makes sure that everyone is prepared. She has put together folders for each nurse desk with hospital phone numbers and quick reference information.
Melissa has a knack for education. She is very approachable for staff and patients. Her teaching method is calm and thorough. She is patient and honestly wants everyone to succeed. During ACLS recertification, she makes certain that you know the material inside and out but she creates an easy atmosphere for learning and demonstration. She is equally affective while teaching patients. Melissa speaks in terms that make an extensive procedure easy to understand. She builds a rapport with each patient she interacts with. They rave about her kindness and knowledge.
Melissa is one of the best nurses that I have had the privilege of working with. I am not sure what our unit would be without her and I sure hope we never have to find out.
