Melissa is an extraordinary nurse who goes above and beyond every day to care for her patients. Melissa is passionate about the pediatric Crohn's and Colitis patient population. I have seen Melissa work with patients from day one of diagnosis where she assumes the role of nurse, teacher, social worker, support person, and overall resource for patients and their families through their transitions to adult gastroenterology. She empowers patients to be active participants in their health. Most recently, Melissa has taken on building the St. Mary's team for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation's walk in April. She coordinated and organized a 'kick-off' party for this event in order to build the Bon Secours team, spread awareness of the event, and raise money for this great cause because she believes that these patients deserve a chance at a cure. She is an inspiration to nursing.
