It was not a typical Monday morning for me as I had taken the day off for some errands and meeting a friend. I was driving home in the morning when I came upon an accident scene. There was a man with a serious head injury and a mangled bicycle in the middle of the road. I immediately pulled my car over and jumped out to help, as I got closer I could see a paramedic from Pompano Beach and a young lady in a navy uniform performing CPR. I approached asking if I could relieve her, stating that I was a nurse. She said, "No, he's got this" (referring to the paramedic). I knew I recognized her voice and at that time the ambulance arrived, and a gentleman rushed me back to the car.
Later that morning, I had texted my friend, Melissa Ames asking if she had done CPR this morning when she responded yes, I told her I was there asking to relieve her. She told me the man had been hit by a semi-truck. At that point, I told her if there was any chance at all of him surviving it was because she was there trying to save his life. I am very proud to know that both Melissa and the paramedic are always ready to help in any crisis.
