Megan is known for being a compassionate nurse who always puts her patients first. She spends more time than most nurses do getting to know her patients by building relationships with them and their families. When she worked on the inpatient Oncology Unit, she would stay past her scheduled shifts to bond with patients and help oncoming nurses for the night. In one instance, Megan got off her 12-hour shift to go buy doughnuts for a patient who had talked about them all day. She does big and small things for her patients that help them cope and smile in the most difficult of times. This is not the only time Megan has gone above and beyond for her patients. When assigned to the same patients days later, they all mention Megan and how great of a nurse that she is. This trend has continued even after Megan transferred to outpatient chemotherapy infusion. In the past three years that I have worked with Megan, I cannot think of one patient who did not like her. She has such an infectious personality that EVERYONE knows Megan.
As an oncology nurse, I believe it is a special and necessary skill to bond and build relationships with this population of patients. She brings light and happiness into their lives when there are so many dark days battling cancer. Megan is not only a great nurse but also an exemplary co-worker. She is never too busy to help a co-worker in need or stay late to make sure others can get their work done. Megan is a DAISY Nurse for her excellent nursing skills and pure heart.
