McKenna and I were caring for a young woman admitted with sudden onset weakness to her lower extremities with an unknown cause. While caring for her, she expressed anxiety about her current hospitalization given previous traumatic experiences while in the hospital.
McKenna and I noticed that the patient's hair was very long and tangled. We asked if her family could bring in her haircare products however, they lived over two hours away and were unable to do so at that time. McKenna was scheduled to work again the following night. Between her shifts, McKenna stopped at the store to pick up hair detangler and a nice brush for the patient. She not only brought the items in but then scheduled time during the night to style the patient's hair.
This simple act of kindness helped the patient be more comfortable and eased her anxiety during her stay, providing a new and pleasant hospital experience for her to remember.
This story is but one example of the compassionate care that McKenna provides to all her patients, making her a true DAISY Nurse.
