I was a patient at Butterworth for the birth of my son. He was born at 35 weeks and was brought to the NICU. I was on a magnesium sulfate IV because I had pre-eclampsia and was unable to visit him without a nurse. While I completely understood this, it was extremely difficult and meant that it was 12 hours after his birth that I first held or touched my son. I asked Maureen if she could help me keep trying to get into a wheelchair and she did without hesitation multiple times that day. Finally, at the end of her shift, I was able to get out of bed and into the wheelchair. Maureen brought me to the NICU and stayed over an hour past the end of her shift so that I could hold my son for the first time. She understood what this meant to me and I will never forget her kindness and compassion.
