I was having chest, back and arm pain along with shortness of breath that had been going on for 6 hours, when my husband insisted that I go to the ER in Detroit Lakes and I was not a happy participant.

And then after several tests when I was told that I was having a heart attack and needed to go to Fargo – I was quite certain that my time on this earth was quickly coming to an end I did not want to prolong the agony with any kind of treatment. Once again my husband prevailed and I was taken by ambulance to Sanford in Fargo. I can’t begin to tell you what I have to think of God’s divine interventions with the staff and the care I received.

My first nurse that night was a young man, Matt, who not only made me believe that he truly cared about me and my recovery and changed my thinking of no treatment do not resuscitate – to believing in the capabilities and caring of the staff. He assured me repeatedly that I had the right to make any decisions that I felt best for me, he held my hand when I was falling apart and wanted to die – he reminded me of all the reasons I had to live and he made me TRUST in the care I would receive here. Over the course of that night I came to totally trust and rely on him. He told me about all the wonderful nurses and other caregivers that would participate in my treatment. After his 12 hour shift that night he gave my daughter his phone number and told her he would be glad to come in the next day to be with me– his day off!!! He truly went above and beyond and yet never left me any doubt as to his competency and professionalism.
