Mary Palomino has demonstrated tireless efforts and devotion to caring for Veterans and all walks of patients by going the distance to save the life of a family pet by giving CPR, which ultimately saved the life of this very special family pet. Her efforts on numerous occasions continually go above and beyond to place Veteran's care and needs above her own. She has recently returned from volunteering from a deployment to Puerto Rico to assist with the victims of Hurricane Maria. Mary made the sacrifice, to take time away from her family to help those in a distant country going through a severe crisis.
Mary has made countless contributions to the Las Cruces CBOC as well as the community in whole. She has volunteered to assist Veterans and the less fortunate, whether it be volunteering at the local soup kitchen, religious functions or personally delivering much-needed items to people in need for food or transportation from her own personal finances. She has on certain occasions even incorporated the help of her husband to assist with patient home needs.
Mary has shown great patience, compassion and leadership skills that make her an invaluable employee. Her inspiration and motivation unite the clinic staff creating a great cohesive work environment. She embraces challenges and encourages teamwork. She offers to stay late and assists others with their patient workloads. Mary's peers and co-workers think highly of her and her deep dedication and knowledge of the VHA system. She continually volunteers and assists with clinic projects and patient advocacy issues. Her bedside manner is always positive with a sincere and honest commitment to patient's needs and concerns.
Mary's ability to communicate and listen effectively foster a positive relationship with patients and family members. In addition, Mary has attended numerous Veteran funerals from Las Cruces and has assisted the bereaving family members with assistance on the VA burial benefits entitled to a Veteran. All Veteran's, family members and staff who have met this very special nurse, have nothing but great things to say about her and truly love her dearly. She has earned the trust, respect, and gratitude of those who know her. She is a living epitome of what being a Nurse represents. Her clinical nursing skills exemplify the type of Nurse the VHA staff, family members and Veteran's recognize as the exceptional role model of a VHA employee. As one of her co-workers whom Mary has inspired and motivated to service, I am honored and privileged to work alongside her.
