The doctor came in asking about alcohol, and the patient has been clean for 10 years. He stated maybe you are having withdrawals or anxiety. The doctor ordered a cocktail of medicine which made J sleep all day. The nurse, Mary was so kind and concerned. Mary took the time to talk to J about his concerns and stated, "this is not withdrawal, this is dehydration." She had a personal conversation about Illinois where J and his family were from. Mary helped him calm down by just a conversation. He had low oxygen and labs were indicating he had severe dehydration. Mary was patient, she kept checking in on him. Mary explained every procedure in detail. Mary is one of the best, compassionate nurses I have ever seen in an ER setting. Mary would get a call every time she would come in and care for J, so we knew she was so busy. Even though she was busy, she would take the time to answer all questions about labs or when he would get a room. However, the one thing that stood out the most was when I asked her for a cup of coffee. Mary walked me to the nourishment room and oriented me to everything. Mary cares - even for the family - what a blessing to us. Mary truly stands out and her morals are compassionate care for all people. Truly she follows the motto for Seton's mission and values, "rooted in the loving ministry of Jesus as healer, we commit ourselves to serving all persons with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable." I thank you, Mary!!
