I delivered my daughter on May 10, 2012. I had 3 different nurses throughout my stay and every one of them was nice but Mary Lou stood out. She came straight into my room when her shift started and immediately made sure I was ok, offered me things that none of the other nurses had, and right away refilled everything I needed. She treated me and my family with so much respect and kindness. She took her time with us and she made me and my daughter feel very important. Mary Lou stood out to me and I absolutely appreciate her!
Another nomination: Mary Lou detected her 2-month-old pediatric patient was failing and facilitated a transfer to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital very quickly. This was done despite the attending physician’s doubts and request for respiratory therapy to re-eval the patient. Subsequently, the pediatrician who arrived with the transport team confirmed Mary Lou’s “gut feeling” and baby was sent to ICU with the hopes they didn’t have to intubate baby before they arrived. I don’t think the family of this baby realized how lucky they were to have a nurse like Mary Lou. We are lucky to have her on our team.
