Mary has continually role modeled herself as a Servant-Leader. She does not ask anyone to do anything she herself wouldn't do. She is always willing to step up and go to bat for her team. Mary creates an atmosphere of fun collaboration. Demonstrating respectful and charismatic teamwork, especially if the topic is one that can cause tension. She created "Great Catch", an initiative that promotes the reporting of high-risk situations. Encouraging the team to view risk master as an opportunity to improve our processes and protect ourselves and our patients. This is not an easy task or quick change. Mary relentlessly works to increase employee engagement in promoting a culture of safety. I have been fortunate to have Mary as my co-worker and boss twice. As a younger person, at the age of 18, I could see Mary was the ultimate, professional nurse. I have watched her work enthusiastically in every role she has been in. She rolls up her sleeves and works right alongside you, giving her all. As a leader, Mary's nursing persona and authenticity are only exemplified. I am forever grateful that I had Mary as a role model and that we have her lovingly watch over our teams in the hospital.
