Mary Ellen Holland, MSN, RN, CCRN showed true compassion for a family dealing with the unexpected loss of their loved one.

"I was following Mary Ellen for a clinical rotation for my MSN. A patient came from another facility and expired as she rolled into the MICU. The family was very upset and the daughter was hysterically upset and angry. Mary Ellen and Dr. T sat down with her and her family for over an hour and consoled her and helped her understand the process that would transpire. I have been a nurse for almost 30 years and have seen many, many families receive bad news, but I have to say that Mary Ellen displayed more compassion and patience than any other healthcare professional I have ever seen. Even though she had to explain the process to the family multiple times, each time she described the situation was like the first time she had given them the information. In other words, she was patient and kind and never acted exasperated or frustrated in any way. It was an extreme situation and she responded with so much grace. This in my opinion is a true example of the UMC Culture."

Mary Ellen Holland is the epitome of compassion and the love she has for people is evident in all she does.
