I was in the hospital for 3 days and for 2 days I had Nurse Mary Ann. All CHLA nurses are very nice but Nurse Mary Ann stood out above everyone. I was always asked how I was doing and made sure I was comfortable. I was in a lot of pain after my surgery and she would roll me to different sides to relieve my pain, no matter how many times I would ask.
On my second day in the hospital, she came and told me that Heidi Klum was in the hospital. She said if I would like to see her, she would bring me a wheelchair. I was hurting really bad and I was so tired, but I got up and got in the wheelchair to find Heidi Klum. By the time I got to the special event, Heidi was gone. I went back to my room and got into bed. A separate nurse found me to tell me Heidi had returned. I told the nurse I hurt too much and could not get out of bed.
The next thing I remember, Heidi Klum came to my room! I know it was Nurse Mary Ann who made that happen because she made sure I was always taken care of. She even took pictures for me. A memory I will never forget.
On my third day, I was assigned a different nurse for the day. But, to my surprise - early in the morning, Nurse Mary Ann stopped by to say hello and check on me. That same day Nurse Mary Ann's daughter, who was a volunteer at the hospital, even came down to visit and offered my parents and I magazines. She was just as nice as her mom!
Later that day, I was improving so much that I unexpectedly got discharged. Before I left, I was hoping to get to say good-bye to Nurse Mary Ann, but I know she was helping other children. While I was happy to go home, I was not happy that I did not get a chance to get a picture with Nurse Mary Ann. I also did not get a chance to say good-bye and thank her for making my days at the hospital so great.
My memory is foggy about a lot of things because I was medicated. But the one thing that is clear is that nurse Mary Ann was super nice. I do not know how to put into words how wonderful she was. But to me, she was amazing!
