Mary Ann is an amazing person and an exceptional nurse. She has contributed over forty years to the profession of nursing and embodies the true compassion and empathy necessary to accomplish extraordinary quality patient care. Her expertise and enthusiasm make her a valuable team member and role model for the profession.
Mary Ann's passion for life is reflected in her work. She makes a difference in the lives of all patients she cares for. She is an educator, researcher, inventor, and activist. Her calming and witty attitude mellows any anxieties a patient or family may have. Many times, laughter is all that is heard from her patient's rooms. She encourages patients and family members to speak up about their care when needed. She is always willing to advocate on their behalf.
Her kindness is admirable and contagious. She is eager to introduce herself to new employees and makes sure to acknowledge them when she sees them again. When a peer or patient is in need, she will help in any way she can. She is also remarkable with student nurses. Mary Ann enjoys teaching students how to insert IV's for the first time. She has even been known to teach proper IV technique to two students at one time, providing them constructive feedback during the process. She is frequently highlighted as an "awesome" preceptor in written student evaluations.
Our organization and profession are lucky to have Mary Ann as a nurse who exemplifies all the qualities that make nursing an inspirational art acknowledged by the DAISY Award.
