My father was admitted to the hospital on a weekend. By the following weekend, he was in ICU and being treated symptomatically with no answers as to the cause. We were told by the doctor that there was a real good chance he may not make it. I was devastated.
Marti was so diplomatic and professional. She is such a team player. My father was her only patient or so that was the way it felt. She gave us the utmost personal care. She felt like one of the family. She talked with us. She answered all of our questions. If she could not, she helped us keep notes as to what to ask the doctor. She helped us stay positive in a tough situation. Marti went and got my stepmother (who is in a wheelchair) coffee. Not from the coffee station here on the floor but the one in the cafeteria with the hazelnut in it. I can't tell you what all she did for me and our family.
She explained everything she was giving to Dad and why she was doing it. She answered all questions. She never thought our questions were silly. Marti was great. Every morning when we arrived at the hospital, I knew Marti would be here with a thorough update for me on how Dad did the night before and anything new.
I don't think we could have made it through this difficult ordeal without her. She has been a Godsend to us. There need to be more nurses like Marti Brooks.
