Over the past 8 months, 6SA has embarked on a journey of team building. Throughout this time, some people have stood out as always positive, encouraging, extremely friendly, and helpful. Martha is one of those people. When she is in the CRN role, she is so supportive and willing to help and teach everyone. She is calm during emergencies and is always up for the challenge of mobilizing her patients. Martha is very patient and kind, and makes her patients feel at ease.
Martha's compassion was so evident when she recently went above and beyond to help facilitate a wedding ceremony at the bedside of her patient who was dying. She did everything in her power to make the day special for the whole family. This included coordinating a cake and refreshments, all while working with the family on the timing of Comfort Care initiation. It is no small feat to plan a wedding ceremony at the same time you are withdrawing care. Martha was a vital part of two rites of passage for this family: a union and a passing. There is no doubt that Martha left the family with sacred memories that they will have for the rest of their lives.
Martha's consistent easy-going approach makes her such an integral part of the 6SA team.
Martha is just an all-around great nurse who brightens the unit each day she works, and she is so deserving of the DAISY award.
