Marna joined the UWMC NICU in May of 1980, early in her nursing career, and has continued to work in the NICU since she was hired. Marna is passionate about providing the highest quality and safest care for the littlest patients in our hospital every day.
Marna routinely assumes the role of primary nurse. Parents of Marna's patients frequently acknowledge the exceptional care she delivers to their babies. Here are some of their comments:
"It was fun working with Marna Yates. She is a great nurse. It was nice having her consistently care for J."
"I appreciated her family-centered approach. Marna was so warm and supportive."
"Marna cares a lot about the quality of her work. She made sure that she provided the best care for our infant. I found her to be very thorough in learning our needs to take care of our infant because we were anxious, even to touch our baby. When we expressed a concern and/or need, she always followed through with addressing it through the proper channels. She got the correct people to help us. We listened to her report to the next nurse numerous times. Marna's report was very detailed and she made sure the next nurse understood the plan, which helped us be able to go home for the night. It reassured us that the plan would be followed. Having her as our baby's primary nurse made the hospitalization of our infant more of a partnership. We worked together to have our infant obtain the ultimate goal of discharge home!"
Marna has been a long-standing member of the NICU Local Practice Council. She regularly contributes to the review and implementation of evidence-based care practices. She is an early adopter of new practices to assure that infants under her care receive the safest care possible.
Marna is an outstanding professional nurse, committed to evidence-based, high-quality patient, and family-centered care. We are fortunate to have her on our team.
