Once in a while, someone pops into your life and you never forget them and wonder how you ever got along without them. This year, my RN Marlys happened to me. I'd had a day of terrible bleeding and was yet to have more. I began to be very afraid after lying in 2 pools of blood that didn't want to stop. She looked at some of my physical situations and uttered the immortal words that drew me to her. She had me laughing in seconds. You know how sometimes in life you meet someone and you just know? From that time forward, she became my guiding light. I trusted everything she said. She always gave it to me straight, but along with hope and a lot of the bright side. When the bleeds lessened, her strong hands compressed the wound, her strong hands held my hand, and her quick wit showed just enough of her devilish humor to pull me into a smile or laugh. At my last bleed, she had a team of seven in my room in a minute. She hung fast through it all. It was just what Marlys had said all along.
You might not pick us out as friends. She is younger with four children. I am more the grandmother type. I was an English teacher and she is the most incredible caring nurse I have ever encountered. She has a master's degree in nursing and was money well spent. Everyone during this hospital stay has been exceptional and I have been cared for by all of them. Marlys is my girl. I wish I could take her home with me. I love you Marlys.
