Marlon Campbell, RN on 4 Tower at Oakland Center, was nominated by a co-worker in the Staffing Office, who stated,

Recently Marlon called and asked for a low census that I was unable to accommodate. Later, the patient census allowed me to grant his request so I called and said he could have the LCD. Within 30 minutes, two patients were admitted to the ICU requiring a pull from 4T and now I needed him. I called Marlon’s home; he answered (some people after being granted an LCD if they see the hospital is calling don’t answer) and he graciously agreed to come in to work. The next day he again was hoping for an LCD. He came to work, the charge nurse called me and told me that a nurse had arrived whose name I hadn’t given her. It was a new LPN whose name was placed in a different part of the schedule, which was why I had not given her the name. I made a mistake and quickly told the nurse and the charge nurse that Marlon could have the LCD and encouraged him to leave ASAP. Within five minutes, the charge nurse called me and said we didn’t have enough staff. I then realized that I had counted the nurse in my original staffing numbers and she was not extra. I had to go back to Marlon and ask if he would please stay. Of course, again he graciously agreed without any complaints or comments about my error. His behavior in these two situations highlights his integrity, and his commitment to SJMOH, our patients and his peers. I believe his maturity, integrity and compassion for others should be recognized.
