I had a patient arrive to the ED with complaints of not eating. After being diagnosed with failure to thrive, the NP discussed with the family the thoughts of putting the patient on hospice. While I was in the room with the patient, Mark noticed that the wife of the patient was getting upset. Mark came into the room and sat down with the wife while I was tending to the husband/patient. Mark then asked the wife if she would like to take a walk so they could talk more. He then proceeded to take the wife for a walk and get her coffee. It was amazing that Mark took the time to speak with the family member of a patient that wasn't assigned to him. As the patient was being discharged home, the wife asked me to thank Mark for everything and helping her understand what was going on.
Mark is an amazing nurse and always goes above and beyond with every patient. I have noticed him multiple times bringing the chair to the bedside to speak to the patient. He always engages the family and makes sure everyone in the room is on the same page. This is why I believe that Mark deserves the DAISY Award!
