When I think about nursing and the type of nurse each individual should strive to be in their career, I automatically think of Mark Aumentado. He is the most compassionate and helpful nurse that I have ever had the privilege to work with.
On this particular day, there were only two transport nurses available. It was a busy day and my patient needed an upper GI test STAT. No transport nurses were available. Mark was busy with MRI, CT scans, and other procedures. When the charge nurse called, they stated that the patient needed the test today because the procedure would determine if the patient could be transferred. Also, if the patient did not receive the test the same day, the other facility would deny payment due to delay of care. Mark did not hesitate or complain and took time out of his busy schedule to come and help the patient. Mark even went to Radiology and to 5 East to look for a gurney. He went out of his way to do whatever it took to satisfy the nursing staff, doctors, and patients. Mark even sacrificed his personal time and stayed over for two hours. To have such individuals who are willing to share their time with such a positive attitude is truly a gift to an organization and to patient care. His exemplary work ethic is magnified by his professionalism, compassion, and altruism to meet the needs of our patients. Mark is a true DAISY Nurse.
