When I think of Marisol, I equate her with compassion and enthusiasm. She is always s brimming with energy and she is always ready to "take on the world". Doing what's expected of you can make you good but it's the time you spend going above and beyond what's required that makes you great and there are 2 instances that I can recall that exemplify Marisol's tenacity of going above and beyond.

An elderly gentleman in his 80's was admitted to MICU several months ago, he was a transfer from an out of town hospital. During the transfer the patient's elderly wife came with him in the ambulance. On one of her rounds, Marisol discovered that the patient's wife was staying in CCU with the patient and she had been there for 4 or 5 days already. None of her family members came to pick her up. Marisol tried to contact the family but no one could come. Marisol found out where the patient lived, made sure someone was at home and then Marisol called one of her own family members to drive the patient's wife home. After that Marisol followed up to be sure someone was home to care for the patient's wife.

The second incident occurred on the 8th floor. A trauma patient needed a "helmet" per the doctors' order to protect his head. Marisol called around to other hospitals and searched for one in our hospital, there was none to be found. After she completed report Marisol went to the local sporting goods store and purchased 2 helmets and returned to the hospital so the patient could have one.

Marisol's dedication to the patients and her commitment to the job at hand make her deserving of the DAISY Award.
