Marina has been a nurse for over 45 years and we have worked together for the last 14 years. She is very experienced in Labor & Delivery but also has many years of OR experience. Because of COVID-19, our Perinatal unit had to completely empty one of our two ORs of any supplies to avoid contamination in case surgery was to be performed on a COVID-19 positive patient. If that happened, we would have to bring only the necessary sutures, gowns, and other staff needed. Marina took it upon herself and repurposed an old cart and completely stocked it with all the necessary supplies to perform a Cesarean Section and other procedures. The cart is called OR COVID Cart. I was the Scrub Nurse and it was the first time I used this cart. It was amazing...we rolled the cart just outside the OR and most everything needed was there. In our present critical time, we should recognize and value her effort and thinking outside the box to conserve resources and minimize waste of supplies. Marina also serves as a resource for many of our new nurses. Marina provides excellent care to her patients and she always delivers her patients no matter how complicated or impossible it may seem. We lovingly call her the "Delivery Queen." She is truly a professional team player. She is always doing something to improve either the flow or the functionality of things in the unit and the ORs. She is always so energetic that it makes others want to be like her. Marina has recently talked about retiring in September. I know we all have to retire at some point in our careers, but when she does it will leave a void in our unit. I could write pages and pages about her skills and work ethic. Marina is a true DAISY Nurse.
