Marianne Solomon, RN – The Troy Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses – September 2009 – Troy Beaumont Hospital

Marianne is a very gifted nurse with her patients and is very well respected by nurse and physician colleagues alike. She is committed to giving the best care possible to her patients. Yet, she also knows that a team that gets along well in a healthly work environment and has built camaraderie is even better able to provide quality patient care. This is why Marianne has worked endlessly to improve the teamwork and camaraderie among her colleagues.

In an effort to recognize excellence among her peers, she created the “Employee of the Month” award in PACU. She saw that it was important that all levels of the nursing staff recognized excellence among themselves.

Marianne has taken her commitment to teamwork one step further. As the Chairperson of POH/PACU UPC she proposed the concept to her team members of combining forces with the UPC in the operating room and the CRNA’s so that collaborative projects and process improvement initiatives could be more easily identified and addressed. To this proposal she received unanimous support from her team and the UPC leaders from these areas. She is currently working to finalize this collaborative relationship that will ultimately lead to better patient care and increased satisfaction among all staff involved (much of this is done on her own time).

Marianne is not only an excellent nurse but also an excellent team member.
