Marianne, I am not sure if you remember me, but I came to Saint Barnabas to deliver my baby girl at only 18 weeks along. I was scared and sad and felt like I was frozen in this terrible moment that I would never be able to overcome. All I could think about was the little girl I was losing and the other little girl that I had at home. I was kept waiting in the PET unit for what seemed like days and when I was finally given a room. A room which I will never forget.
You were there to help guide me through the most terrible day of my life. I remember the gentle manner in which you spoke, how you made me comfortable when I was in pain, and how you treated me as if I was the only patient you had. I remember when I was in pain during the contractions and you stayed with me and checked on me. You will never know how much your comfort and care meant to me. It has been 7 months since we lost our 2nd child, a beautiful little girl, and it seems like just yesterday all at the same time.
I want to say thank you for the gentle care you provided me with. Thank you for your compassion. I was so upset when the time came to deliver her and there was another nurse. It was only a half hour after your shift ended that was my baby was born and while the nurse that was present was helpful and kind and gently, it was you who saw me through the whole terrible process. I never got to thank you. I hope our paths cross again one day in a more joyous, less painful way. Please know that you will forever hold a very special place in my heart. My husband and I are so grateful that you were there that day.
