So often we take things for granted and as I sit here I think about when my husband came into the hospital for the last time. I kind of had an idea he may not go home and if he did he would succumb to his illness. It was a total devastation to my heart and to the life I had for 33 years. To be told the simple fact “we can do no more for him and we are sending him home”.
But when I look back there was that one bright spot that held both my husband and myself together, Maria Howard, she was our caregiver, our nurse, our strength when it was at a premium. You are like a drowning person and someone with a kind heart throws that life ring to you, and wow, you suddenly realize with love and prayer, and a person with Maria's character and talent as a nurse that life will go on and be as strong as you can be for the person who is leaving your life forever, never to be forgotten in our hearts. Maria was a comfort when the going was real tough for both of us; she held a hand, smiled, reassured us at every corner and God what a wonderful thing to have, when we were so broken. I know what she did was just her being herself, but that’s what made her care so special, it came from her heart and with care and compassion.
Thank God from above for Maria Howard and all the good work she does here at Mercy…A GREAT BIG THANK YOU WITH BOUNTIFUL GRATITUDE. Maria is very deserving of the DAISY Award.
