Although Peggy is fairly new to the Burn Center she has integrated into the night team very well. She is open to new learning experiences, and when she sees her co-workers with challenging patient situations she is more than willing to lend her help to the team.

From the beginning of her employment with the Burn Center Peggy has demonstrated a remarkable ability to connect with the emotions and feelings of our burn patients. These patients are dealing with multi-potential life changing issues as far as their appearance and ability to function the way they did before they were injured. Many of our patients suffer in silence or have trouble expressing their anxiety regarding these potential great life changes.

Recently, Peggy received a DAISY nomination from one of her patient's. It read as follows:

"One of the nights of my stay at this hospital I was overcome with a lot of anxiety, drenched in sweat, and couldn't sleep. Peggy said "What if I sit here next to you, will that aid you to sleep?" So I said "yes." Peggy pulled up a chair and sat next to my bed and waited for me to fall asleep. I feel she definitely went above and beyond to help me."

Despite Peggy's very busy night she was able to make time to sit with her patient, comfort her, help her express her anxiety, and with her presence to help her to fall asleep. Peggy epitomizes the ideal of what a burn nurse should be; a caregiver that not only helps the body heal, but the mind and the spirit.

Thank you Peggy for being a true role model for compassionate nursing!
