I am a 70 year-old cancer patient, this was my first hospital stay other than giving birth to my three sons, which was well over 45 years ago. Needless to say, I was nervous, anxious, and frightened throughout the whole experience, but Marcus made the ordeal less upsetting.

Marcus's smile reassured me that everything was going to be OK. He treated me with respect and kindness. After the procedure, I was feeling completely unattractive and felt a need to primp myself up. I wanted to wear my earrings, but struggled to put them on. I asked Marcus if he would help me, and he did without complaining (he even paid me a compliment!).

Marcus let me know what was going to happen to me throughout the day; he explained what medical providers were going to visit me; and what I needed to do when I left for home. He kept me well informed throughout my whole stay. There was never a time that I felt I was lacking information largely because of Marcus' briefings with me.

Marcus had incredible bedside manner and always inquired about my well being. He would explain what vitals he was taking, the medication that I was going to be administered, and always finished with, "Is there anything else I can do to make you more comfortable?"

I felt that I was not ready to be discharged because I was not feeling well. Marcus informed the attending physician and charge nurse of my hesitancy and that I had been crying. I think that Marcus asked them to be clear as to why I was ready for discharge. The attending physician even called my son to explain why I was ready to be discharged.

Marcus was unfailingly positive. His genuine and sincere personality made my stay pleasant and peaceful. The whole time I was there I felt that he truly cared about me.
Marcus showed he cared (he even hugged me at discharge and wished me well!) and he was able to clearly communicate what he was doing while he was doing it.

Marcus was never rigid with me and I always felt that he was always serving me as a patient. I'd have to say that Marcus contributed to my well-being and nursed my spirit as well.

I hope I have conveyed that Marcus is deserving of a DAISY Award. Seton is lucky to have a nurse as fine as Marcus.
