My 72 year old father was admitted to Baptist Health Louisville to the 3rdfloor oncology unit.During his stay his nurse was Marcia Carnal. He was initially admitted for a somewhat small problem and within 2 days we were given devastating news that my dad actually had an inoperable, extremely aggressive type of cancer.During the duration of the tests, scans, and biopsies my family and I were on an emotional roller coaster.Marcia was with us through it all, physically, emotionally, and medically. She was a constant source of stability and comfort to my dad and all of us.There are really no words to describe how wonderful of a person she is.She is exceptionally knowledgeable nurse, no doubt, it was so much more than that to us.My dad is a farmer and is a very proud and private man.During his interaction with Marcia he was put completely at ease.He was completely comfortable with her helping him with all of his needs.I can tell you that this has never happened before. He told me himself that he didn't feel like he was a number because of her care. She treated him with the utmost of dignity and respect. She had a demeanor that was unbelievably hospitable and comforting. She was extremely timely, coming to assist within 1 minute of being called. She never seemed to be the slightest frustrated in any way.She was every bit as comforting to my stepmom and me as she was to my dad.Upon receiving the news that my dad could have 2 months to live Marciakneeled and prayed and hugged and cried with all of us.She was like a sister to us in the moment and I will never forget that as long as I live.I simply cannot praise her enough. If there was ever a nurse who deserved an award for nurses who demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and especially their extraordinary compassion care it was most definitely nurse Marcia Carnal.
