Our baby boy, E, was born and it started out great and quickly became an urgent situation. E was rushed to the NICU by the nurses and NICU NP. My husband, scared out of his mind, followed our little man to the NICU. There he met Maddie Cermak, the nurse who would care for our sweet boy.
Maddie made sure to explain to my husband what was happening along with a plan for our little guy. When I was finally able to be with my little guy, I met Maddie. A sweet, cheery and smiling young woman who made our stay and road to recovery that much easier. I felt at ease with Maddie's competence, bedside manner, and overall caring personality. She cared for our sweet boy for 2 days. Watching the small ups and downs and helping us cope with them. I remember being quite sad when Maddie said her shifts for the week were over.
That Thursday or Friday (the days molded together) were extremely trying on me emotionally. E was again attempting to wean off oxygen, and again unable. I burst into tears as I walked into the NICU and sat down at his bedside. The nurse caring for him saw me look at her with tears in my eyes as the door to the NICU opened. It was Maddie, (who had come to "check on E") She was working in a different part of the NICU that day but still sought out E and visited. I was at a loss of words. She is more than a great nurse- her passion for her job shows in her ability to care beyond words for these little miracles. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
