Lynn was floated to Pediatric ICU one night. She cared for a 2 year-old oncology patient. The patient's double lumen Broviac clamps had both spontaneously broken 3 weeks ago. Conversations took place with the medical team and Special Procedures Department regarding replacing the clamps prior to the patient’s discharge home scheduled for later in the week. This all being said, Lynn decided she could problem-solve this issue in the meantime. Lynn took the time to examine sizing of all potential in-hospital clamps, and found safe alternative clamps. This investigation required time, determination, and a positive approach.
Lynn created a positive outcome for her patient, avoiding an extended hospital stay, central line replacement and its associated risks. She collaborated with the staff working that night to care for her patient safely while "thinking outside the box".
Lynn deserves the DAISY Award and a standing ovation for a job extremely well done!
