Lynn was there when I had my first hernia surgery and I had a long struggle recovering after that. Then a year later, it came back and another surgeon saw me in the ER on a Monday. I had surgery two days later. Lynn was thankfully my nurse again. She took outstanding care of me and my wife, attending to my needs compassionately. She ensured that I understood what was going to happen in my surgery and knew that I was scared this time around knowing the rough time I had with my first hernia.
While I was under, she kept my wife informed during the surgery and even let her know when I was done. Lynn got my pain prescription ready so my wife could take care of it before the pharmacy closed. After surgery, she assessed my pain and encouraged me to rest and get some sleep before leaving. She checked in at least three times while I was sleeping (per my wife) to see how I was doing or if my wife needed anything.
Soon I needed to go to the bathroom and she assisted my wife and got me out of bed. Soon after I sat up in a chair and Lynn asked if I thought I should stay the night or if I would like to go home. Nothing against the hospital, but there is nothing like sleeping in your own bed. I was still on the fence of which to choose, so Lynn ordered me some much-needed food and as always was there with a Sprite. I sat up for a while longer and she asked again how I was feeling. Other than my stomach pressure and pain I was doing great. I wanted to go home, so Lynn got me a pain pill to take for my long/bumpy ride home. After getting the ok to leave, I got dressed and Lynn offered me a ride out to the car. I insisted on walking. She helped get me in the car and encouraged ways to make it easier getting in and out which made my pain a lot better.
During my outpatient surgical time, she showed compassion and care to both me and my wife, always keeping us updated and easing our concerns. I was very anxious about this surgery knowing the rough time I had recovering from the last. Lynn made it comforting knowing that I had a nurse who cares about me, my pain, my recovery, and my family. She is truly the embodiment of a great nurse! I am happy to say I was back to work within two weeks and my pain pre-surgery until now is a fraction of what it was thanks to the amazing staff at HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.
