My Mom spent just over two weeks in the hospital in early to mid-August, one week of which was in the ICU, which was very difficult and scary. All the ICU nurses were good, but Luis stood out for his incredibly kind, caring and calm demeanor. Luis was clearly very knowledgeable and experienced in terms of medicine and nursing, and loved his work, which put us at ease. He also immediately saw that I was very involved in my Mom's care and was quick to listen to my concerns and my suggestions as to the best ways to work with my Mom, which made me feel valued and trusted as a partner in her care.
Then, on another night, when Luis was not my Mom's nurse, but when her nurse had stepped off the unit, we had an urgent situation where part of my Mom's IV became disconnected an started to spurt out blood. When I pushed the call bell Luis answered and as soon as I said "blood" he came rushing in and immediately tended to the situation, fixing the IV, cleaning up, and reassuring us that the IV was still in good shape. That experience really impressed me, that even when tending to someone else's patient, he was as diligent, calm, professional and reassuring as when he was "our" nurse. Thanks, Luis!
