Lucky (Lucksen) is an exemplary nurse. As one would expect of a critical care nurse, he has excellent clinical skills. Lucky is also well known for his prowess in placing peripheral IVs and peripheral IVs via ultrasound in the case of patients who are "difficult sticks". It takes more than just clinical skills to create an exemplary nurse, though. Lucky is flexible, patient, and calm in stressful situations. He has a sound grasp of policy and procedure, while not losing his ability to think outside the box when needed. He shows compassion and empathy for both his patients and their family members. He treats patients, family members, fellow staff members, and physicians with dignity and respect. Lucky serves as an advocate for his patients as well as his coworkers. He consistently strives to make sure that his patients and family members are educated on appropriate topics and have their questions answered to the best of his ability. He is the first to volunteer to help a fellow nurse with a patient care task and is always willing to help team members in ICU as well as on other units when they need assistance. A polyglot who speaks fluent English, Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole, Lucky is of invaluable assistance with some of our non-English speaking patients. Most valuable of all is his sunny personality. He is the kind of person who looks for the positive outlook of any situation. He does not complain and will take on extra work to make things easier for his coworkers, all while providing exceptional patient care. Lucky also will work extra shifts to help out with staff shortages. He is the nurse that patients and family members request by name.
