When Lorie was deployed to the COVID ICU from the PACU, she willingly jumped into a lead position to organize a team of health care workers to admit gravely ill patients to the ICU. Patients needed to be intubated and have multiple complicated lines inserted. Lorie is an expert bedside nurse always putting her patients 1st with 45 years of Critical Care Experience. When I worked with her in the ICU, she was a true leader. She acted as a critical care resource who was highly motivated to lend a hand whether it be questions about vents, drips, CRRT, pathophysiology, bathing a patient, or offering emotional support to patients, families, or co-workers. I overheard her on the phone with the wife of her patient who was an NOPD officer for over a half-hour putting her mind at ease and making her feel like family since she was also the wife of an NOPD officer. The wife was very grateful to her and when they got disconnected, I spoke with her when she called back. I don't know a nurse with a broader knowledge base, or who is more worthy of this wonderful award!
