The staff of ICU deals with the sickest patients in MMC. We are often faced with end of life decisions with our patients and their families. We call upon Lori often and at all times of day and night. We introduce her to the very situation many of us don't feel comfortable with: The end of life. She has taught all of us the very meaning of "Dying with dignity and respect." She has never hesitated to drop what she is doing to come to our aid. I have personally worked with Lori in the trenches of patient care and she does not hesitate to jump in, introduce herself sometimes to a room of grieving strangers, walk right up and simply hold the patient's hand. It does not matter the time of day or evening. She will be there if any way possible.

Lori has helped our unit and I am sure most of the hospital. Nursing staff realize starting an analgesic Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pump is not only the most giving and caring way to assist a patient in their last hours of life but it so helps their loved ones spend time with them without the harsh reality that death can sometimes bring.

We had the honor and privilege of having Lori's beloved mother in our unit during her transition into Palliative Care. Lori went above and beyond even then to make us all feel comfortable with what we all knew was inevitable; her mother's death.

It is a privilege for me and all the staff of ICU and I am sure the entire hospital to have Lori Mitchell a valued member of the Bon Secours team. I cannot think of a better recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses than Lori Mitchell LPN. Thank you so much for your guidance, support, knowledge, and compassion in all you do.
