I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the most touching moments of my nursing career. I was in the office with Clinical Coordinator, Lise Cooper, when there was a knock at the door; it was one of our patient's (E) daughters.
Lise had been helping E and her daughter with some satisfaction issues earlier in the week, so Lise welcomed E's daughter in and she began to cry. E's daughter said, "Do you remember me? My father was G and you wrote us the most beautiful letter before he passed away."
Lise had taken care of G a number of years ago. Before he died, he had a long and heart-felt conversation with Lise about his wife and children. G was a very reserved man and did not often express his feelings. Lise was very touched that G had shared his feelings with her. She wrote down everything he said and transcribed it into a letter to his family so they could know how he really felt about them and how much he loved them all.
E and G's daughter was so moved by Lise's act of kindness. She said that she still has a copy of that letter, and so do all of her siblings. Their daughter said that she would never forget Lise and was overjoyed to finally be able to meet her in person.
Lise and the daughter shared a hug and some tears. Lise was so glad to know that at such a sad time in their lives, she could bring some happiness.
