I am nominating Lisa Hallam from PICU for a DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care she provided to a patient. This patient had suffered a severe burn injury which required a lengthy and tenuous stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This fact alone takes special nursing care and skills to provide truly life-saving care, especially in the face of an injury pattern that causes great anxiety in most caregivers.

As the patient stabilized and continued her clinical course, Lisa was present for multiple shifts as her primary nurse. According to the patient's mother and aunt, both of whom have a background in healthcare, the total care provided was entirely positive and "way beyond what was ever expected". Even among a field of excellent nurses taking care of this patient, the family singled out Lisa Hallam as providing exceptionally good care. They stated she kept them updated at all times and was attentive to their needs. They also commented on Lisa's honesty, stating how important it was to have her be gentle in the delivery of information while still communicating the seriousness of their loved one's injuries. The empathy and supportive nature of Lisa's bedside care resonated during their conversations; the fact that she survived some devastating injuries testifies to the excellent total patient care provided by all staff members at Mercy Kids.

As the discharge date for her patient drew near, Lisa also helped plan a birthday party for her in conjunction with the Child Life staff and Dr. L. I was able to attend this party, complete with cake and presents, and saw the huge smile on the birthday girl's face and the sincere appreciation of her family.

It is with great privilege that I recommend Lisa Hallam for a DAISY Award after hearing the wonderful comments by her patient's family, who gave their support in recommending Lisa for this award following the care she provided their daughter. Truly it is an honor to work with Lisa and all the other excellent care givers who provide great trauma care.
