Lisa Godsey has worked in the SICU for five years, and is very deserving of a DAISY award for her passion, knowledge, and overall excellence in nursing. Lisa was my preceptor during my final quarter of nursing school, where I spent ten weeks and 20 shifts working and learning beside her. Lisa made a wonderful preceptor for several reasons, two of which included her ability to connect with me as her preceptee, as well as her overall love of teaching. During my preceptorship, she seized every learning opportunity she could find for me, and made sure I got to experience as much as I could during my rotation with her. She allowed and encouraged me to get my hands into anything that I could and to not let any opportunities for growth pass me by. She made me feel comfortable in asking questions and never made me feel like I was in her way or that I was an inconvenience to her.

Aside from volunteering to precept for students, Lisa is an excellent nurse for several reasons. Lisa is willing to constantly learn and adapt to an ever-changing environment. She constantly seeks learning opportunities and never wants to stop learning or growing as a healthcare provider. Lisa has a natural ability to connect with both her patients and their families, and has a way of making them feel comfortable in an uncomfortable and often impossible situation. During my time with her, I was able to learn much of what it takes to be a successful, caring nurse. Lisa truly exemplifies the kind of nurse I hope to be. She significantly makes a difference in her patient's lives, consistently brings enthusiasm and energy to her daily work, and consistently focuses on meeting the needs of the patients and the families.
