My dad was admitted to the ED on 2 days just a few days apart. On the first day, he was admitted with some mental health issues and needed tests and placement on a locked unit. Lisa explained details of tests, helped with his personal cares during the day, found purposeful activities to defer his anxiety and did an excellent job of following through with communication with his other health care facilities (who were not following through on the necessary orders). She made the transfer to a SNF happen by the end of the day. She did this all with grace and never an indication that anything of her job was too much to deal with.
Four days later he was admitted to the ED again, this time with a BP of around 75/35. She again was able to support our family, explain the tests and helped other nursing staff with cleaning him from incontinence of bowel and bladder. Because his situation was dire, she also gave us comforting comments to allow us to make some very difficult decisions about what we thought was an end of life situation. She was a team player, kind, caring, resourceful, knowledgeable and did it all with the utmost grace. If every caregiver was as professional and kindhearted, our organization would be even more outstanding. She is a true role model for all caregivers.
