Lindsey's story demonstrates her compassion and relentless pursuit in meeting her patient's and their family's physical and emotional needs. In her DAISY nomination story, her patient was going to be taken off of life support for respiratory issues. The patient's husband was struggling with the decision but understood there was nothing else that would help his wife. Lindsey's compassion and empathy were pivotal in providing the emotional support he needed during this difficult time.

Lindsey asked if he wanted a spiritual representative prior to withdrawing care. The husband shared that the patient was Lutheran and would want someone to give a blessing. Lindsey called the on call pastor line and there was no one available until 5pm. Knowing that time was of the essence for this patient, she went onto the internet and searched for Lutheran churches in the Towson area. She found a local church and called on the patient's behalf. When no one answered, she continued her quest to meet this patient's need. She was finally able to contact a Lutheran pastor who was able to come to the patient's bedside immediately.

Lindsey clearly went above and beyond to make sure the husband and family were taken care of at one of the worst times in their lives. She was also touched at the appreciation the family gave to her for the compassion and care she demonstrated at such an emotional time.

Lindsey is always willing to help her fellow nurses, her patients, and their families. This story is one of many defining her compassion and commitment.
