On Christmas Eve I was the on-coming physician. A patient of ours had been in L&D for 2-3 hours and began abrupting her placenta sending the baby into distress. The symptoms were somewhat misleading as the patient was not bleeding vaginally. The diagnosis was certainly not clear cut or obvious, but Lindsay made the correct diagnosis and called me emergently about 15 minutes before I was due to come on duty. We performed a stat C-section with the greatest haste. Her quick thinking and actions saved this baby from death or a hypoxic brain injury. She should be recognized for correctly diagnosing a serious problem where others were slower to realize the acuity of the situation.
