When cancer patients need a hug or words of encouragement, Linda Gill, RN, OCN, is often there as a bright spot at the LewisGale Regional Cancer Center Pulaski.
“When I feel weak in spirit I hear Linda’s encouraging words and I see her dedication and loyalty to each patient,” wrote one patient who nominated Gill for the DAISY AWARD for Extraordinary Nurses.
“I am humbled and touched to have received this award,” she said. “Working with many special patients and their families during my years has been truly rewarding.
For more than 18 years Linda has been administering chemotherapy at the cancer center. Over the years, she has made it a priority to continually achieve oncology certification proving she has skills to specifically care for the needs of cancer patients.
“It is not uncommon to find Linda researching new nursing techniques, processes, and medication that will enhance the care that we provide,” said Marsha Myers, Director, LewisGale Regional Cancer Center Pulaski.
She has inspired many of her co-workers in the process.
“I am so proud that she is part of our cancer center nursing staff and because of her leadership our cancer program continues to be one of the best in the area,” said Sandy Emeott, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski.
“Linda exemplifies the heart of a servant and is an example to us all of what it truly means to deliver high-quality, compassionate care,” said Mark Nichols, CEO, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski
Gill is tireless in her commitment to the patients and relentless in her hope for a cure for cancer.
“There will be no rest until all cancers are eliminated or controlled in a better manner,” she said.
Until that day, cancer patients can trust Gill will always have a warm smile, a caring hug, and words of faith and healing to encourage them along the way.
